GRAPEVINE 1/14/2000 We have an RI-399 meeting set for Jan. 21st. This meeting has been postponed several times. Maybe it will finally take place. The time is opportune since management has been using clerks on tour 3 at the plant to staff the AFCS, a mailhandler function. The mailhandlers should spend more time protecting what is clearly their craft instead of pressing to take over clerk functions like sorting priority mail. I intend to stress this point if the talks take place. Bear in mind that any decisions made by the Local Dispute Resolution Committee must be unanimous. The Plant Manager does not feel knowledgeable about RI399 and has called in help from Little Rock. I am not optimistic about positive results. We are in the process of registering for the National APWU data base for arbitration awards and other info. HQs restricts access to Local Presidents, officers and stewards. This may be for traffic reasons or preventing management from using our resources. Once we get tied in, the data will be very helpful in researching grievances We need a steward on tour 3 at the Plant. Anyone who is interested should contact Loren. This is a golden opporunity for someone to step up and get more involved. We have not had a union meeting in two months so try to come this Sunday. There is much to discuss and make decisions on. It's YOUR union - we need every member's participation. Please try to attend. Finally, just a personal note about some of the clamor taking place in our ranks. We need to keep focused on what is best for the Local and put personalities and non union problems aside. Petty disputes and disagreements should not become grievances - the system is overloaded already. Neither should they be used to disrupt and agitate the membership. Let's all try harder to work toward the betterment of the Local and its members. Thanks, Jake Fayetteville APWU 667 "Illegitimi non Carborundum" http://FayettevilleAPWU.tripod.com
