We had an 80% "YES" vote!!!!!!! That's incredible in a right to work state!!! What happens now is they will become part of the Central Arkansas Area Local / APWU. Now phase 2 and phase 3 kinda goes hand in hand. These people will have to join the Union, or of course have the right not to join. But they do have a Collective Bargaining Agent, and that is APWU-CAAL. First things first....., we need to negotiate a Contract for them. I am currently in posession of a copy of the East Coast Leasing Contract with APWU, and I'm sure it will be fashioned similar......subject to negotiations. Very much like negotiating a Local Memo...., only not as restrictive. The funny thing...that I missed was this: On Tuesday morning, after the vote was in, Frank Romero, and some of our Local guys went down to Pat Salmon's with an APWU / CAAL banner, and stretched it out and held up VICTORY signs for a photographer. The owners (Don Salmon, and some other powers that be) raced over there in a pick up truck, and almost hit some of our people with the truck. They jumped out, madder than hell, and snatched the banner out of our peoples hands, and began to trample on it on the ground. Frank was taking their picture, telling him, "I love taking pictures of people making an ass out of themselves". I missed all that....., we should have had some video of that!!! Anyway...., bottom line..., these guys need the APWU now more than they ever did! So, there is no time to waste. Dan Cassidy (6/1/00)
