JENNIFER BRAMMER RESIGNS Jennifer Brammer has resigned, effective April 21st. In her letter of resignation she explained that she was leaving the Post Office because she couldn't get a transfer to Van Buren or Fort Smith and that she needed to spend more time with her children. Her husband, Mike, also recently resigned the Post Office as a carrier and is now a fireman in Van Buren. Jennifer says she may be working temporarily helping with the census, but gave no further plans. Jennifer & Mike live in Van Buren and are deeply admired by postal workers in Fayetteville. JOB REVERTED Lee notifed the union via certified mail that she is reverting the thumper job and combining both thumper and states racks into one position and creating another related position as "relief" for racks & thumper. The union did not "approve" or "disapprove" of such, but was simply notified. Both positions will begin at 4:00 pm; formerly they began at 3:30 pm. JASPER HANKINS Jasper Hankins won the bid for expeditor position at the plant. Start time is 7:30 am with Sat/Sun off. Jasper's old job on Dickson Street was held by Jasper for 15 years. Management on Dickson notified Jasper that his old job's hours and duties would be changed; so rather than go through an uncertain period, Jasper opted to come to the plant. GINI HICKMAN Gini won the bid for the Loop Mail position at the plant. The award was made Friday. LABOR-MANAGEMENT MEETING Plant Manager Lee Thompson tentatively set next Labor-Management Meeting for Friday, April 21st, at the plant conference room. Staffing package for new facility on Joyce Blvd. will be top of our agenda. Also on agenda will be RI-399, management failing to supply us with disciplinary action sheets, new job postings, impact statements, Article 12, excessing, and traffic light on 15th & Morningside. REPORT FROM MEETING IN DALLAS I will present a thorough written & oral report of Dallas meeting of March 27th at the union meeting on the 16th. There is so much material to present, it will take some time to digest it all. CONVENTION PLANS The Hilton Hotel mailed out revised contracts for Arkansas Postal Workers' Convention, June 1-3, 2000. Minor changes will still be made, deleting continental breakfast from Saturday's schedule and inserting coffee, tea and Danish only. The reason is the cost. Hilton charges $6.50++ per person for Continental Breakfast, which equates to $8.32 a head including tax & gratuity. Since we only have $40 registration to play with, the cost of banquet, refreshments, and hotel suite will exceed what we take in. Another reason for only having Danish & drinks on Saturday morning.......several will be gone before the Saturday morning session (if history is any measure). The gift packs, COPA drawing, and other loose ends must be worked out in the next few days/weeks. We are trying to get Nolan Richardson to welcome the delegates, but if this doesn't work out, we'll try another of the coaches. I can't think of a single political leader in NW Arkansas whom we'd like to invite. POSTMASTER'S 3rd LAWSUIT ATTEMPT DISMISSED Postmaster Linda Patrick's third attempt to sue the Postmaster General because the post office didn't come to her rescue when she claims the local & national unions were after her -- was again dismissed by a federal judge. The article in Springdale Morning News 2 days ago announced the dismissal. BUTTONS If any of you would like buttons specially made with phrases you particularly like, just let me know. I've found a way to make them in an instant. MEETING NEXT SUNDAY Please don't forget union meeting next Sunday, April 16th! The newsletter should be out in time to announce it, but if it doesn't, please get the word out. Loren Adams ("El Presidente")
